Things To Do in
Ogunquit Maine

Ogunquit Maine, what can I tell you, it’s a beautiful place that would make a wonderful addition to your New England vacation.

Placed among pristine white sand coastal beaches, high rocky cliffs, charming local shops as well as remarkable restaurants, there was certainly plenty to see and do.

Cute little trolleys run from the beach to the historically laden Ogunquit Village.

Known as an artist colony for generations, we found an assortment of very unique galleries and boutiques as well as distinctive local shops and a variety of dining rooms.

The Beaches

The beaches feature pristine white sand, and have been voted among the ten best beaches in the entire U.S.!

The beach itself offers kayaking along the extremely scenic coastline.

Take a stroll along the Marginal Way, a walking path high above the crashing waves below, where each turn brings a different view of the rocky coastline. Be sure to bring your camera, you’re going to want pictures of this.

Psst, there’s even a romantic sunset cruise to be had!

Ogunquit Hotels

We’ve only stayed at the Anchorage by the Sea resort, located right on the ocean. We like it because it’s located only a short walk to Perkins Cove and the downtown area. We’ve been happy with this choice, and I like to walk the beach so this is perfect.

The Beachmere Inn, Gorges Grant Hotel or The Milestone, all boast smoke free rooms equipped with a refrigerator, a coffeemaker and even cable TV that features HBO.

Most hotels also have country club golf privileges, a fitness center, and a Jacuzzi. They also have heated pools, and free available high-speed wireless (Wi-Fi) Internet access.

There are also charming little bed and breakfasts that are fully equipped to bring you relaxing times blending with your serene and comfy surroundings.

Nightlife

There’s plenty to do in the evening too. There are places to kick up your heels and have some drinks in the evening. Or maybe take in a play at the Ogunquit Playhouse.

Fun for the Kids

If the beach isn’t enough to keep the kids interested for the entire vacation, there are a couple fun parks you can take them to.

Children will love going to places such as Aquaboggan in Saco, a wonderfully thrilling water park, or Funtown/Splashtown USA--a combination water park and amusement park, and let’s not forget York’s Wild Kingdom a combination zoo and amusement park.

All of these are within a short drive from Ogunquit.

Older kids may be drawn to Wonder Mountain that features a full arcade, as well as mini golf games. Smaller children will fall in love with Animal Instinct a very fun-filled toyshop just a few minutes away on Main Street.

Where to Eat

There are a vast variety of restaurants here. Take your pick, all of them are pretty highly rated.

We typically eat at Barnacle Billy’s when we visit here, it’s located on the harbor in Perkins Cove. The view is calming, the waitstaff friendly, and the lobster and seafood dishes are delicious.

Other Things to Do

For the fisherman, the Bunny Clark Deep Sea Fishing trips found in Ogunquit will be very pleasing indeed, and the FinestKind Scenic Cruises offer a lot of tremendously interesting cruises, as do the Perkins Cove Lobster Tours.

For the golfer, there are an unbelievable amount of superior golf courses in the area, which are considered some of the finest in the North East. Hey, play a round for me, will you? The area also features kayak rentals, courses in kayaking and of course, kayak excursions, some of which include a lobster lunch!

There are also bicycle tours available, as well as bicycle rentals.

The best time to visit is in the late summer, early fall, whereas it does tend to be a bit of a tourist trap in the summer months. And traffic can back up quite a bit, especially on the weekends.

However if you do travel in the summer months, high traffic seems to congest in the late mornings and all afternoon, so plan to come early and leave late to avoid this.

It’s entirely up to you, but Ogunquit is an amazingly beautiful part of the world, as you’ll see for yourself
