Boston's New England Aquarium Explore Life From Under The Sea
I remember going to the New England Aquarium in Boston, as a child and thought that it was huge and amazing. Well a few decades have passed and I still find it pretty cool, although smaller than I remembered. The New England Aquarium is one of the top places to visit in this region. It’s an educational experience but structured in such a way that it is a lot of fun, too. Children as young as toddlers will enjoy the features and exhibits.

The Boston aquarium has a number of great exhibits. If you love turtles, there are a number of them here to look for including the Loggerhead sea turtle, the Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle and the Green Sea Turtle. Myrtle, the sea turtle is here for everyone to see and say "hi" to.

Perhaps one of the best exhibits at the New England Aquarium is the African Penguins. You can get up close to them and watch them interact with each other, waddle from place to place and dive into the frigid water. There are excellent displays detailing their existence and habitat. There are many exciting things to see at the Boston aquarium. One of my personal favorites was the Amazing Jellies exhibit. I found the jellies quite fascinating, and loved the way the lights changed colors making the jellies look blue, yellow, green, purple, and red. Younger children, who may know something about these animals from cartoons, may find this a lot of fun.

The Giant TankIn the middle of all of this is a multi-story, Giant Ocean Tank, which has a wrap around spiral walk-way so you can really get a close up view of the creatures. Follow this all the way to the top of the tank, and you’ll be able to look down into the tank. It’s incredible how different they look from the top. The tank simulates a Caribbean coral reef that houses sharks, turtles, giant green eels which were adorable, stingrays, and many smaller reef-living fish.

The Aquarium also features an IMAX theater. The facility has a huge 65 foot by 85 foot wide screen, which is larger than a six story building. You can watch 3D movies here that take you into the world of the oceans and seas around the world. The movies playing change often but this is a must do event for most. One of the benefits of visiting the Boston Aquarium is the ability you have to learn not only about these animals but also about their habitats. Conservation and research are stressed here.

The New England Aquarium is a great place to spend a day. There is a kid friendly Harbor View Café featuring all of kid's favorite foods and treats, but you may want to save your appetite for Faneuil Hall marketplace located just down the street. Overall we enjoyed the exhibits, the tank, the penguins, and the jellies. However there were a few things that are worth mentioning. First, it can get real crowded in there, so if you go, plan your trip carefully, the weekends are absolutely mobbed in the warmer weather months. To tour the whole aquarium, you can probably get it done in 2 to 3 hours, or maybe longer depending how long you stay at each exhibit. Once inside you’ll will be directed between the ropes, and they will take your picture for you to purchase if you want. You do not have to do this, simple say no thanks and move on. It’s easy to get to New England Aquarium from the T via the green line, however if you’re driving into Boston, park at the 75 State Street Garage, (2 blocks away) it’s about $10 less than the one by the aquarium.
