Nantucket Daffodil Festival: An Island Spring Celebration
The town of Nantucket is especially spectacular in the spring. One of the primary reasons for this could very well be the Nantucket Daffodil Festival. From the beginning of April to the middle of May, daffodils of every shape, color, and size bloom all over the island. An entire weekend is dedicated to this spring celebration, and has been one of our favorites of all the Massachusetts festivals we go to.
Perhaps the highlight of the weekend is the Antique Car Parade where over 100 antique cars are decorated with daffodils and then paraded through town and over to the delightful village of Siasconset. The parade is concluded with a tailgate picnic for all to enjoy.
Daffodil Parade EventsSome of the other events that boost Nantucket tourism during the Daffodil Festival are the Daffy Dog Parade, the Daffy Hat Pageant (a separate contest for both adults and children), the Children’s Daffodil Parade, and the Garden Club’s Annual Daffodil Show. The Children’s Daffodil Parade usually begins much earlier than the actual event. The school will incorporate the daffodils into a science project where the children learn more about these flowers as they prepare them for the upcoming festival. The Children’s Daffodil Parade is for children under the age of ten.
Bicycles, skateboards, baby carriages, and wagons are decorated in a Daffodil theme. Cookies and lemonade are available for all.
The Nantucket Island photos which can be found all over the internet, truly speak for themselves. They tell a story about this incredible event that words can never do justice. You’ll see the antique cars decked out in the most beautiful daffodils imaginable, dogs looking especially “flowery,” some of the cutest and most original hats ever, and of course the world’s most beautiful daffodils in yellow, white, orange, and even pink.

The Nantucket Daffodil Festival weekend is rounded out with raffle giveaways, window decorating contests, craft shows, wine and cheese tastings, concerts, art shows, and various other exhibits. But if you should tire of all the activity and festivities, you can always explore the island and town of Nantucket via bicycle. This is especially enjoyable during the springtime. The natural beauty of Nantucket is never more lovely than this time of year. Nantucket only has around 900 rooms available, so you have book early if you want to get a reservation. Plan ahead to attend next year’s Nantucket Daffodil Festival. You won’t regret your decision.
